Projects at Longmont United Hospital

The fast growth of St. Vrain Valley has led Longmont United Hospital to plan for the future with expansion projects and technology advancements. We continue to provide residents of the communities we serve with the best possible services in the state of the art architecture and facilities with the following completed projects.

News and Events

Emergency Department - new 28,927 square foot Emergency Department opened in March 2008. The Emergency Department expanded to 24 treatment rooms including four private trauma rooms. To streamline operations at the door, there are three triage rooms to direct the appropriate levels of care from minor ailments to serious conditions. X-ray, CT Scanner, and a laboratory now reside in the Emergency Department.

MRI - the installation of a new "state of the art" MRI. The "short bore" accommodates patients with claustrophobia, as they are not completely enclosed in the tube. The high resolution MRI is faster with improved image quality and a reduction in scan time.

Cardiopulmonary Department (Heart and Lung Services) - newly remodeled 3,660 square foot space provides both inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services. These services include echocardiograms, 12-lead EKGs, blood pressure and 24 or 48-hour holter monitoring, cardiac stress tests, pulmonary function studies, sleep studies, and EEGs.

Catheterization Lab - 2,077 square foot addition for a second Catheterization Lab.

Patient Tower 5 South Wing - the build out of 18 beds on 5 South completed the Patient Tower.

Other Expansion Projects - The Central Utility Plant Expansion provides the necessary utilities for the above expansions and is essential to the infrastructure of the hospital. This expansion consists of a two-story structure. The 4,807 square foot first floor expanded the utility plant to include two 300 ton chillers, a 600 ton cooling tower, a 250 horsepower steam boiler, an emergency generator, new paralleling gear, main transformer, a 10,000 gallon fuel tank and the auxiliary equipment. The existing 1,500-gallon oxygen tank was replaced with a 3,000-gallon tank.
