Patient Care

Compassionate care begins the minute you meet one of our members of the cancer team. At your introductory meeting with your physician, you will have the opportunity to learn everything you need to know regarding your diagnosis. The recommended treatment plan, as well as other options, will be presented to you. This can be a very stressful and confusing time. It is our goal to help you understand your treatment plan and options presented. Education is key in helping you recover. The more you understand, the more at ease you will be with your care, and ultimately the reduced stress will help with your recovery.

Cancer Conference for the Best Treatment Plan

Our cancer team meets regularly at Cancer Conferences to discuss the best possible plan of care and treatment for the cancer patient. Specialists include surgeons, medical oncologists, a radiation therapy physician, pathologists, radiologists and other specialists. Pertinent medical information is reviewed together by the attending doctors to help guide the treatment plan.

Inpatient Services

Occasionally during a course of treatment, cancer patients need to be hospitalized for a higher-level of care. The Inpatient Oncology Unit at Longmont United Hospital is staffed by dedicated professionals who specialize in the care of patients who have been diagnosed with cancer. The nurses work closely with patients and their families to provide personalized, humanized care – the Planetree model of care (link). They provide chemotherapy and biotherapy according to the Oncology Nursing Society Standards. Many of the nurses are oncology certified.

Outpatient chemotherapy services are also provided in the Oncology Unit Treatment Room.
