Health Ambitions is a wellness center created specifically for adults, especially seniors, and people who have been ill or have had an injury. Our center provides wellness options in a medically safe environment. If it has been several years since you started a wellness or exercise program, you may want to consider joining us.

At Longmont United Hospital, we have special health and wellness programs to help you relax and lose weight as well as screenings to help you stay healthy. The following programs are open to the community – you do not have to be a Health Ambitions member to participate.

Water Fitness

Health Ambitions Therapy Pool provides a warm-water environment that facilitates exercise and rehabilitation in a fully accessible pool.

From water aerobic exercises to water walking exercises, working out in the pool is an excellent way to build strength and endurance, decrease body fat, and increase flexibility in a reduced weight bearing environment. As you participate in water fitness classes, you can easily burn calories while reducing your risk of injury compared to other forms of exercise such as running, weight lifting, or contact sports. The ability to swim is not required for any of the water fitness classes.

Aqua Arthritis –Beginning

This no-impact class is for stretching and toning muscles, increasing core stability, and improving joint mobility. This is a great class if you have arthritis, joint limitations or replacements. If resistance tools such as buoyant water weights and noodles are used in class, the Hospital will provide to participants for use during class.

Low Impact Aqua Aerobics - Beginning

AConsider this mild, no-bounce class for stretching and toning muscles while improving cardiovascular conditioning, CORE stability and joint mobility. Expect an extended cardiovascular segment as well as strength and conditioning. If resistance tools such as buoyant water weights and noodles are used in class, the Hospital will provide to participants for use during class.

PowerAqua – Intermediate/Advanced

This high-intensity class will challenge your cardiovascular and muscular system. Expect to raise your heart rate and have fun doing it! This class is for those who have been exercising and are looking for a high impact class to get in shape and lose weight.

Aqua CORE –Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced

Aqua CORE is a class designed to teach your body correct form and movement that will stay with you for a lifetime. Performed in the water, this class works with the abdominal muscles, as well as muscles in the lower back, hips, and buttocks -"The Core”. The exercises will stretch and strengthen your body to improve posture, balance, muscle length and control. Principles of Pilates, Yoga and mat science will be incorporated into each class. All fitness levels and people in post-rehabilitation are appropriate for this class.

Aqua Ai Chi – Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced

Performed in the water, Ai Chi is a mind-body program that is the perfect cross-training activity. It improves core strength, circulation, breathing, balance, flexibility, energy, stamina, relaxation, tranquility, awareness and focus all in one class. This class focuses on the mind-body connection in a quiet setting.

Power Aqua Variety– Intermediate/Advanced

Power Aqua Variety is a fun, high-energy, class that combines a variety of aqua exercises to exciting music for an invigorating cardiovascular and muscular workout. A combination of traditional water aerobics, dance-based choreography, kickboxing, and aqua boot camp will be included. You will have so much fun you won’t even notice how hard you are working! If resistance tools such as buoyant water dumbbells, noodles, and weights for the hand and ankle are used in class, the Hospital will provide to participants for use during class.

Pre/Post Natal – Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced

Water exercise designed for the expectant woman and new mother. Class includes light aerobics, muscle toning, stretching and relaxation, to aid in preparation for and recovery of pregnancy.

Gym Schedule

Seated Fitness – Beginning

Build strength and endurance while sitting! This “In-A-Chair” class includes light cardiovascular conditioning, stretching, strengthening, balance, and CORE stability. Light hand weights, therabands, and fitness balls are used in this class to enhance the Seated Fitness experience.

Low Impact Land Aerobics –Beginning/Intermediate

This exercise class will focus on low impact aerobics, core conditioning, balance improvement and coordination. It is more challenging than the Seated Fitness Class. The ability to get up and down from the floor is necessary to participate in this class.

Boot Camp –Intermediate/Advanced

You can command power, strength, and agility with this military inspired workout. It will push you to your limits. As you maneuver your way through each workout, you'll lunge, kick, crunch, box, and more, for a full body workout. In the end, you'll leave class feeling exhilarated.

Zumba – Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced

Zumba is a dance fitness class with Latin and international dance rhythms and movements. Exercises will focus on the toning of the arms and legs as well as strengthening of the abdomen. The class is fun, energizing, and can make you forget that you are working out! No dance experience required.

Zumba Gold – Beginning/Intermediate

This class targets the largest growing segment of the population: baby boomers. It takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. The Zumba Fitness-Party is known for its zesty Latin music, like salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton, the exhilarating, easy-to-follow moves, and the invigorating, party-like atmosphere. Active older adults want camaraderie, excitement and fitness as a regular part of their weekly schedule. Zumba Gold is the perfect fit. It’s a dance-fitness class that feels friendly, and most of all, fun.

Healing Yoga - Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced*

Stretch, strengthen, rejuvenate, and reduce stress! Yoga is an ancient healing system that improves overall health. It also helps restore the body after surgery, injury or illness. Yoga can help ease symptoms and side-effects of cancer and various chronic diseases. Open to the community, you do not have to be a Health Ambitions member.

CORE Values – Intermediate/Advanced

CORE Values is a class designed to teach your body correct form and movement that will stay with you for a lifetime. This class works with the abdominal muscles as well as muscles in the lower back, hips, and buttocks -"The Core". The exercises will stretch and strengthen your body to improve posture, balance, muscle length and control. Principles of Pilates, Yoga and mat science will be incorporated into each class. Participants should have full mobility and expect to move through a variety of positions, including standing, sitting and laying on the floor. This class requires participants to get up and down from the floor.

Basic CORE Values –Beginning/Intermediate

Basic CORE Values is a beginning level CORE class that works with the abdominal muscles as well as muscles in the lower back, hips, and buttocks. The exercises will stretch and strengthen your body to improve posture, balance, muscle length and control. Principles of Pilates, Yoga and mat science will be incorporated into each class. All movement will be done on the floor and is appropriate for people who need to begin building strength in the abdominal area. This class requires participants to get up and down from the floor.

Balance for Life - Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced

Balance for Life is an innovative balance and mobility training class. This class is designed to help people improve their balance and reduce their risk of falling. Depending on your age and health, injuries caused by falls can potentially have serious long-term health impacts. Each class will combine balance activities, mild to moderate cardiovascular exercises, and strength and flexibility training. This four-week class meets once per week for 45 minutes. Class will be instructed by two exercise specialists and accommodate only eight participates, providing the individual attention and guidance that may be needed. An initial screening is required prior to the start of the class.

Special Programs

Balance Screening

Our Balance Screening is a series of three tests that measure your balance and help to find any problem areas you may have. A computerized readout of your balance performance is included. Physical and occupational therapists do the screening, which takes about 30-40 minutes. At the end of the screening a therapist will speak with you about the results, and give you suggestions about how to improve your balance and lessen your risk for falls. Fee $25

Home Evaluations for Safety

Experienced Occupational Therapists can evaluate your home environment, identify potential problems, and recommend changes to help avoid accidents. Their assessment ranges from layout of furniture to lighting and other suggested items to make you safe. Fee $55

Training, Realization, Education, Weight, Empowerment – T.R.E.W.E.

The T.R.E.W.E. program will help you establish long-term lifestyle changes. We will provide you the necessary tools to start and continue a health program. This is not just about exercising. It is about choosing the right nutrition and achieving a healthy weight. It is about being empowered with a positive mental focus. We want to help you decide what makes you feel great. This program is a nine-week commitment that includes a two-month membership to Health Ambitions, education on related topics, a metabolic reading and a variety of exercises.

Wellness Coaching

Wellness Coaching offers you a detailed assessment of your overall wellness. We begin with an interview regarding your wellness goals then assess your strength, flexibility and cardiovascular levels. Upon completion of the assessment, we develop your personal wellness program. An Exercise Specialist will also complete follow-ups with you and a post assessment to measure your improvement. Our goal is to provide a more complete and specific program to help you meet your goals and to objectively measure your progress.

“MedGem” Resting Metabolic Rate Testing

This testing procedure measures your Baseline Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is essential to planning your diet and exercise program. It will tell you how many calories your body burns in a resting state for a 24-hour period. This figure can then be used to calculate how to diet and how much exercise is needed to meet your goals. Fee $55 - 30 minute consult or $65 for two consults for non-members / $40 - 30 minute consult or $50 for two consults for members

Physician-ordered Exercise

Cardiac Rehab Phase II Program

The Cardiac Rehab II Program is designed to assist individuals who have just had a cardiac event (such as heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty) and have a high risk factor (such as angina, high cholesterol or high blood pressure) to work toward cardiovascular fitness. Medical personnel and exercise specialists provide a safe atmosphere while supervising the program. There are also many educational resources and opportunities to ask questions about medications, diet and the disease process. Perhaps the most beneficial aspect is the support that develops among the participants.

Cardiac Rehab Phase II requires a cardiac-related disease and a doctor’s prescription and is covered by most insurance. To schedule an appointment, call 303.485.4101.

The Power Lunch

This 12-session cardiac exercise and education program is designed for those with confirmed heart disease or with multiple risk factors. The first four sessions include cardiac EKG monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation monitoring and personalized exercise prescriptions. The remainder of the sessions includes blood pressure monitoring, exercise prescriptions and self-monitoring of heart rates. Each session includes a cardiovascular and strength training segment, supervised by both a registered nurse and exercise specialist. Education material is also provided.

Participants need both a referral and target heart rate from their physician.
