Heart and Lung Rehabilitation
Cardiopulmonary Services
Our Cardiopulmonary Department provides both inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services. These services include echocardiograms, 12-lead EKGs, blood pressure and 24 or 48 hour holter monitoring, cardiac stress tests, pulmonary function studies, sleep studies, and EEGs.
Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
If you are suffering from emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma or any other pulmonary condition, you would benefit from the Longmont United Hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. The highly skilled & caring staff in our Cardiopulmonary Department will help you increase your exercise tolerance, reduce your anxiety about how much you can do, improve your muscle strength, and improve your coping skills through education.
We offer a three-phase program that requires a prescription from your physician.
- Phase one:
- Participants are educated to become familiar with their pulmonary problem and the skill to cope with it.
- Phase two:
- In the first of twelve classes, goals are set for each individual participant. Each class thereafter includes exercise with equipment such as bicycles, treadmills, rowing machines, and weights. Blood pressure and oxygen levels are measured during each exercise session. All exercise is supervised by a Respiratory Therapist and Exercise Specialist.
- Phase three:
- For those who have completed Phase II, this is continuation of the ongoing exercise regimen. Blood pressure and oxygen levels continue to be measured during exercise classes. Exercise classes are all held under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist and Exercise Specialist. One hour exercise classes are offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 11:00 a.m.
